2027 Bentley Flying Spur S: 680 PS Hybrid, eLSD and a New Face

Bentley has handed the letter S back to its most literal meaning on the Flying Spur, and this time the sedan has the hardware to back up the badge.

Bentley detailed the new Flying Spur S in a press release in early June 2026, then let the car speak for itself in public at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, where it rolled through the First Glance paddock in a fresh mid-blue metallic called Dark Teal. It is the sportiest version of the current Flying Spur sedan, and for once the S suffix brings real change underneath instead of a darker trim pack.

So there is no mix-up: this is the four-door Flying Spur S, which sits a step below the range-topping Speed and rides on a different body altogether from the Continental GT coupe. It is the performance-flavored read on the sedan, and it arrives for the 2027 model year.

What the S actually stands for now

Older S models in Bentley's range leaned on styling and a slightly sharper exhaust note. This one earns the letter. The Flying Spur S pairs Bentley's High-Performance Hybrid powertrain with a chassis package that used to be kept for the cars above it, and what comes out is a sedan quicker and sharper than the S badge has ever meant on this nameplate. Bentley calls it "the most powerful version to date," and for once the numbers hold the claim up.

680 PS from a plug-in V8

The Flying Spur S runs a plug-in hybrid setup: a twin-turbo V8 working alongside an electric motor. Bentley quotes a combined 680 PS, which converts to 671 hp, and 930 Nm of torque, or 686 lb-ft. That is 130 PS more than the previous Flying Spur S, roughly a 20 percent jump in output, and a big one for what is usually a mid-life letter change rather than a new car.

One footnote on the engine. Coverage of the reveal consistently describes the V8 as a 4.0-liter, and that matches the architecture Bentley has used here, but the official release leans on system output and never spells out displacement, so treat the 4.0-liter figure as reported. The performance claims come straight from Bentley: 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds, 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 191 mph. In a car this size and this plush, figures like that would have read as supercar territory not long ago.

Power and torque are Bentley's official combined system figures. Displacement of 4.0 liters is widely reported but not spelled out in the official release, so read it as reported rather than confirmed.

The chassis is the real upgrade

Bentley fits the Flying Spur S with its Performance Active Chassis as standard, and that is where the driving story really lives. The package brings Active All-Wheel Drive, twin-valve dampers, torque vectoring across the axles, and the 48-volt Bentley Dynamic Ride active anti-roll system, all run by a new generation of ESC control software. For enthusiasts the headline hardware is an electronic limited-slip differential, an eLSD that Bentley says shows up on a Flying Spur S for the first time. On a two-and-a-half-ton luxury sedan, a proper diff working with torque vectoring is what turns a big peak number into a car that actually changes direction on purpose, instead of one that only goes fast in a straight line.

A face the sedan hasn't worn since 1962

Visually, the S goes dark. It wears Bentley's Blackline Specification, so the brightwork, the grille surrounds and the badging turn gloss black, the tail lamps are tinted, and a sport exhaust caps the rear. The detail worth pausing on sits up front: single headlamps, which Bentley notes is the first single-lamp face on a Bentley sedan since 1962. On paper it reads as a small change. In person it is a surprisingly big one, giving the Flying Spur a cleaner, more focused expression than the twin-lamp cars have. New 22-inch wheel finishes complete the look, and Dark Teal is the launch color Bentley picked to show it in.

Timing and price

Bentley has not published US pricing for the Flying Spur S, so any specific figure doing the rounds is a placeholder for now. For scale, a standard Flying Spur sits comfortably into the mid-$200,000 range before options in this segment, but that is a reference point rather than a quote for the S, which should ask for more given the powertrain and chassis content. Production and delivery timing were outlined around the reveal, with the S due to reach customers through the back half of the model year. Expect firm US pricing closer to launch.
