- The current Jeep Grand Cherokee of the WK2 series is delayed on the assembly line: this year it turns 11! And this is not the end of a career: production will continue for about another year.
- The Grand Cherokee L of the new WL series is not a direct replacement for the current Grand, but an addition to the lineup.
- The prefix L to the name indicates an extended model with a third row of seats. This is the first time a Grand Cherokee has such a version. The fact is that in the US market, more than 70% of sales of crossovers and SUVs of this class come from three-row cars.
- A short two-row modification in the WL family will also appear, but in about a year.
- By the way, the past experience of the Jeep in the three-row format was not very successful. The Jeep Commander SUV debuted in 2005, but customer interest quickly faded and production ceased in 2010. The main drawbacks were the cheap trim, the inconvenient seat transformation system, and the nominal third row. With the new Grand Cherokee L, the developers have tried to avoid repeating the same mistakes.
- In the new generation, the Grand said goodbye to the Mercedes ML platform of the W164 series.
“The new model is based on the Giorgio trolley, on which the modern Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio models are built.
- The new Grand Cherokee inherited all the technology from its predecessor. Of course, with the necessary modifications.
- Saved a set of all-wheel drive transmissions:
- Quadratrac I includes a clutch in the front wheel drive.
- Quadratrac II is supplemented with a demultiplier (reduction ratio - 2.72: 1).
- Quadra-Drive II also has a rear differential lock.
- Optional Quadra-Lift air suspension (closed air circuit) in standard position provides 212 mm ground clearance (versus 207 mm for the previous Grand Cherokee). It can be reduced to 170 mm in parking lots and up to 277 mm off-road!
- All lighting equipment is diode, and the hood and the fifth door are made of aluminum.
- The angle of entry in the highest position of the body has become more: 30.1 degrees against 25.7 for the previous model.
- Passport ford depth is now 610 mm versus 510 for the old Grand.
- Interior:
- fully virtual instruments on the screen with a diagonal of 10.25 inches,
- head-up display
- instead of the gearbox control lever, a rotating washer is installed
- the Uconnect 5 media system can have a touchscreen with a diagonal of 8.4 or 10.1 inches (depending on the configuration), supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless protocols
- Wi-Fi
- 2 options for the layout of the cabin - for seven or six seats.
- 12 USB connectors of two standards (USB-A and USB-C)
- At the start of sales there will be five trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit and the new top version of Summit Reserve.
- Features of the Summit Reserve version:
- seat upholstery with expensive leather.
- inserts made of real wood veneer.
- multicontour front seats with ventilation and massage.
- ventilation of the second row seats.
- all-round cameras (frontal - with night vision function)
- McIntosh audio system (19 speakers)
- Active Driving Assistant system, that is, adaptive cruise control with lane hold function. By the end of the year, this assistant will also allow you to release the steering wheel while driving on the highway.
