Design of McLaren Elva
The concept of the original McLaren M1A was personally designed by Bruce McLaren. The sport car was equipped with a V8 4.5 Oldsmobile (345 hp) and a revolutionary suspension for the 1960s. The Elva had a fully independent one, with unequal levers, a stabilizer bar, and adjustable springs and struts.
After a successful performance at the Canadian Sport Cars Grand Prix (third place overall and best lap time), McLaren could not keep up with the growing demand and Elva Cars began producing replicas of the M1A. This is how the McLaren-Elva M1A Mk I, McLaren-Elva M1B Mk II, and McLaren-Elva M1C Mark III appeared. For the new speedster, McLaren had to buy out the rights to the Elva trademark.
