Alpine's Next A110 Goes Electric, and the Whole Fight Is Weight
Alpine sent a running prototype up the Goodwood hill to preview what the next A110 will be: still a lightweight sports car, only now fully electric.
The A110 has always sold one idea harder than the rest: keep it light and the rest sorts itself out. So the question hanging over an electric A110 was never really horsepower. It was weight. At the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Alpine gave a first public answer with the A110 FUTURE, a running prototype it drove up the hill instead of parking on a stand.
It's a development mule rather than a production car, and Alpine doesn't pretend otherwise. It previews the next-generation A110, which the brand has confirmed will be fully electric. Pierre Gasly drove it up Goodwood's famous hillclimb on 9 July 2026 with the Duke of Richmond riding shotgun, and the car ran daily across the festival's 9-12 July window. Alpine calls it a preview of "the world's first true EV sportscar." That's their phrasing, and it's worth leaving in quotation marks until a finished car earns it.
A new platform built around the battery
Underneath, the FUTURE rides on what Alpine calls the Alpine Performance Platform, a modular architecture meant to underpin more than one body style. The headline number is an 800-volt electrical system with a split battery. Instead of one slab under the floor, the pack is divided front and rear, with roughly 25 percent of the energy up front and 75 percent at the back. Alpine says that split, together with a low seating position, lets the car keep the current A110's height instead of perching everyone up on a tall floor the way most EVs do.
The cells use cell-to-pack construction inside a high-pressure die-cast aluminium casing that, Alpine says, stiffens the structure rather than just holding the battery. The suspension is described as fully aluminium, with the brakes and steering folded into the same control philosophy. If the production car keeps even most of that, you can see how Alpine hopes to keep the mass in check on a car that carries cells at both ends.
Two rear motors and torque vectoring that thinks fast
Drive comes from two rear-mounted e-motors packaged as a 3-in-1 e-axle. They're permanent-magnet synchronous motors fed by 800-volt silicon-carbide inverters, spinning to a claimed 21,500 rpm. Where it gets interesting is the software. Alpine runs a system it calls Active Torque Vectoring 2.0, shuffling torque between the two rear wheels for traction on corner exit, with a Wheel Slip Torque Control function meant to trim understeer going into and through a bend. Reports from the reveal say the vectoring reacts within milliseconds. Alpine's own materials only promise "precise, instantaneous wheel-level control" without naming a number, so treat any exact timing figure as unofficial for now.

Alpine has not published a horsepower or kerb-weight figure for the FUTURE. The ~480 hp number and the 1,400-1,500 kg target come from outside estimates, so read them that way. Even the optimistic end of that range sits a few hundred kilograms above today's petrol A110, though it's still light for an electric sports car.
How Alpine developed it
A lot of the FUTURE's tuning happened before it ever touched tarmac. Alpine says its DiM250 driver-in-the-loop simulator, a full A110 cockpit parked in front of a nine-metre curved screen on a hexapod motion rig, has logged more than 45,000 km of virtual running to help dial in the chassis and calibrate the powertrain. Goodwood was where all that met a real hill. Alongside the mule, Alpine wheeled out its current electric line-up, the A290 hot hatch and A390 fastback, plus a few heritage A110s, for what it called its biggest Goodwood presence yet.
When you can actually buy one
Alpine plans to reveal the production third-generation A110 in late 2026 or early 2027, with deliveries expected to start in early 2027. It'll be built in Dieppe, the same French plant that has already turned out more than 35,000 of the current A110. Pricing and final specs haven't been announced, and until the production car is official, the numbers for output, range and weight all stay provisional.
The camouflage and the "FUTURE" name make this look like a concept car, but the engineering underneath reads like a team working overtime to avoid building a heavy EV. Splitting the battery front and rear to protect the seating position, then casting the pack housing so it does real structural work, isn't styling for a show stand. Neither is the all-aluminium suspension. Whether it lands anywhere near that 1,400 kg target is the whole ballgame. An electric A110 at 1,450 kg would be worth getting excited about. At 1,700 it's just another fast EV wearing a famous badge. Goodwood didn't answer that question, but it did make it feel real.
The whole A110 story is a fight against weight, and wheels are where that fight is won or lost quickest. Unsprung mass shapes how a light car turns in far more than any spec sheet lets on.
